In this video, I demonstrate how to desalt, cook and shred the authentic salted cod (Bacalao) and the salted pollock fillets. An updated version.

1 fillet of the authentic salted cod yields approximately 13 ounces.
The salted pollock fillets are sold in 1 pound packages.

My daughter is currently living in the university residence & is having to prepare her own meals. She got some salt cod fish & I was trying unsuccessfully to explain to her over the phone how to desalt it. I resorted to YouTube for a related video when I found Aida's, perfect!!!! this is EXACTLY what I was looking for, great video Aida thanks.

This is going to sound weird, and I apologize for that 😂…but I just wanted to let you know that I appreciated this video so much. It was so thorough and clear…it was paced at the right speed and your tone was that of one’s favorite teacher. I have been craving bacalao guisado and decided that I want to make it myself. I have no idea if the guisado will come out great since I’ve never made it before lol, but I will at least know my preparation of the bacalao will be PERFECT thanks to you. I hope wherever you are, you are having a great day. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I got bacalau from Lidl, it's not dried but a frozen steak. Instructions say fry for 5 minutes but it's a very thick fillet with skin.
I think I'll cut it into chunks and make a fish pie with mash potatoes.
I remember seeing shops in Portugal with cardboard boxes lining the place filled with dried bacalau. The weather was 25C and the stench was enormous.
I had menu del dia in a restaurant of bacalau and it was so tender and subtle tasting.

Hi Aida! I have a question for the pollock codfish. My mom taught to just rinse the excess salt from the pollock codfish and bring it to a boil rinsing between boils, until i get the desired texture and saltiness.is her way of cooking correct? Thanks for your tutorial on how to cook codfish and pollock codfish. Pollock codfish is a staple in our home. She taught me how to cook the pollock codfish the way I described above. Boil rinse boil rinse until i get the desired of saltiness i desired. I hope you understand my question. Happy New Year!

My friend Cook's The Salted bacalao that you find in the store in a bag he does not put it in a bowl and put it in the refrigerator for hours he runs it underneath cold water in the sink and then he boils it three times in the pot with boiling water then after that he Cooks It
