Toyota Yaris Cross 2025 review

This is the new Toyota Yaris Cross!

Toyota has updated its family-friendly small SUV, and Mat’s going hands-on to see if it can compete with competitors like the Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur.

When it comes to the design, you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for the previous edition, as the design is almost identical! But then again, that’s no bad thing. We’ve got our hands on the edition one above the entry-level, so it comes with a few additions such as black roof bars. This edition and above also has the option to come with two-tone paint. All-in-all though, it’s a smart-looking small SUV!

Step inside and the key change is a new, larger infotainment screen than in the previous car. This is added to all versions of the new Yaris Cross apart from the entry-level. There’s a mix of squishy soft materials and scratchy plastic throughout the cabin, and storage is pretty decent throughout. Thankfully, there are also some physical buttons for climate control!

Toyota has added a second engine to the Yaris Cross, meaning there are now two to choose from! Both are 1.5-litre 3-cylinders coupled with an electric motor. The entry-level produces 116hp, while the second option can produce 130hp.

The Yaris Cross starts at around £25,500 and rises to £35,500 for the range-topping edition. So is it the best small SUV you can buy in 2024? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

When Mat is happy with a load cover, it is at least a shortlist car. 😂

The Yaris Cross was the 3rd best-selling car in July 2024 in all of Europe, its popularity has helped Toyota become the 2nd best-selling brand in Europe in YTD 2024

I drove mine from Cornwall to Derbyshire and back and it averaged 67mpg at 75mph - that's why people buy them

I've had mine 6 weeks, it's ave 72mpg, you can easily achieve 80-100 mpg on trips especially with slower moving traffic, it's more Powerful than I expected with the 114 motor, the only thing I would change is the seats to full leather

B mode in Toyotas is ONLY for descending mountain passes or steep descents.
It should never be used during normal driving.
I own a Hybrid Toyota. You can read it in the user manual.
It does not regenerate much more energy. Instead it uses engine brake to slow you down. That is the only purpose

Really proud to be part of the team which manufactures this car in France, in Valenciennes 😊

I've had the hybrid mid-spec for almost 2 years now. Averages 4.1 l/100km on highways, 3.6 around town and less than 3 in the countryside. The boot capacity on mine (hybrid FW drive only is 390 liters). Very comfortable and impressive handling for its class. Cannot recommend it enough!

It's a bit funny how we (South Africa) get almost every car that Toyota sells globally (even all the GR models), but not a simple Yaris (anymore).

We've got one, they're great on fuel, super comfy and I think they're pretty sweet looking

The fuel cap situation is purely due to cost savings. This method requires no electronics, just a simple cable. 😂

Forget the Toyota, at 13:10 what looks like a lovely, red over silver, Alvis Grey Lady drophead makes a fleeting appearance.

The modern Toyota hybrid doesn't have a traditional CVT at all. It's an eCVT and it's a totally different system.

Toyota is making really great cars right now, most of others traditional manufacturers (VW, Stellantis....) are lost.

Would be very interesting to see a Clio Vs Yaris or Capture Vs Yaris Cross comparative
Especially regarding the hybrid system which are similar but still have a quite different philosophy
