As someone who's family owns an elementary school that closed almost 40 years ago, I can say owners don't like trespassers. Last people we chased away was stealing copper pipe and stripped electrical wires so half the building is blacked out.

Edit: There are no tresspassing signs. We do have storage unit business running out of one of the wings of the school building and a garage to work on cars for personal use. the other part of the building is mostly empty. We stopped thieves from stripping all the copper wires out of the building before they got to the section where our storage unit business operates. IT'S NOT ABANDONED.

I totally get it. Too many have ruined the trust of owners as we see so much trashing and graffiti… or they simply don’t know us and panic to chase us away cause they don’t want us getting hurt.
I may not appreciate it or feel comfortable but I understand

My mom and I just peeked inside a window of an obviously abandoned house one time and some dude came out of nowhere behind us, immediately, angry that we were there. Can't really blame him, but it seemed sketchy at the time.

I have immense appreciation for the younger generations who want to explore and document the remains of places and buildings.
They’re capturing a society in a specific moment in time that no longer exists.
Just think of all the individuals who stayed, worked, visited these places…here, then gone. Ours is the same fate 😢
