KL sinkhole 'swallows' woman

A 31-second clip from a closed circuit television on the street shows the exact moment a woman said to be a tourist from India disappeared into a sinkhole along Jalan Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

The soundless footage was shared with the press by the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department.

The main problem in this Asian region, not only Malaysia, is the comprehension, the understanding of PREVENTIVE maintenance.
I was for 11 years a project manager as well as maintenance manager for three ''foreign'' factories, in Malaysia. My main challenge for the people working with me was to make them understand, the necessity to check, dismantle perfectly working equipments on a timely schedule check.
What I was facing was: ‘’Why do you want us to check something working perfectly well…I would add so far’’. Simply because ALL equipments what ever they are, are programmed to fail at the most inadequate moment. To avoid that you must PREVENT it by CHECKING all equipments on a set schedule timeline.
It has a cost for sure. But by the fact it can be anticipated, it can be done in Nonproductive time. It cost MUCH more to shut down an entire production area when it’s needed, due to failure, than it is when doing it in hidden time. As long as you just do not get this concept in mind, you will spend more in term of money, and time to repair instead of PREVENTING it to happen.

Regular folks thought, underneath every metropolitan in this world is earth...when the reality is, it's filled with underground cables, underground tunnels, underground sewers, underground concretes and what nots. These loosen the earth's grip and that's why, trees fallen easily and sinkholes forming everywhere. We should learn from the tragedy of the Highland Towers. KL was not built like Singapore or Putrajaya, everything about KL was never concocted out of proper planning and this is the result. Nampak ada ruang je sikit, terus main pacak je, janji masyuk. Everything about KL is born out of satellite cities that was combined into what has now become a metropolitan. It's beyond repair now, only endless pouring out of capital just to maintain its livability.

Calm down, this is not about bad workmanship, this is about soil movement underground.
We need a special department to monitor and prevent it from happening again.

Open ur eyes and see when the lady falls. The hole that appears is square in shape. Its a manhole. But without its top cover. Tiles applied on top without its cover.

How come the sinkhole looks like a perfect rectangular shape? Sinkhole are normally some irregular shape.

it's square shape means contractor did not fully compact when backflling.

Still tak jumpe lg mangsa. 8 metres deep, harap mangsa survive, tp dlm tu, chances survival agak tipis. How in the world there a sinkhole in the middle of a city! What kind of a contractor did this job. I heard it happen before at the same spot long time a good.
