Sutton-on-Sea Summer 1991

In this video shot by Stephanie in summer 1991 you can see things that are no longer there - the breakwaters, the Church Lane toilet block, and the Beach Hotel; blank spaces where things are today - Bill Baker Court, the trees around the playing field; and drop in at Bennetts the Butchers where a young Richard will serve you 'haslet and a well-done pork pie' and you can compare the prices with today. You can also see work going on at sea connected with the Theddlethorpe gas terminal*, a rig offshore and some mystery cranes down towards Sandilands. This was over 30 years ago!

*Opened in 1972 and closed in 2018, Wikipedia records; In the early 1990s, a new pipeline was built to the terminal by Kinetica, a company jointly owned by PowerGen and Conoco. That must be the work going on out to sea.

Nice video.

Some salient things which are sorely missed:
3:10 to 3:30 Vast, washed flat & hard beach. Groynes. Sloping sea wall / steps.
[Sea at high tide coming right up to the promenade.]
4:30 Donkeys. Ah... retired?
4:41 Tarmac tennis courts. "Garden" cafe - @far left (demolished).
5:40 Beach Hotel, including link to promenade bar (demolished).
[Home ales - Nottingham, closed 1996].

Also going, going, gone:
The colonnade below the council chalets (unsafe).
Further south at Sandilands - The Grange and Links Hotel (redevelopment plans?).
Golf course (now a National Trust nature reserve).

Hello! This is lovely to see such a blast from the past! Just out of interest, what was the video filmed for?
