As a Turk, I agree with everything you said Sister, but as a Muslim brother, the reason why Turkey is in this situation is because the country took in more than 6 million Syrian refugees, unfortunately, because there are so many Illegal workers the wages are super low, our president wants to make the country more religious, ALHAMDULILAH, and he did this by lowering the interest rates to almost nothing because of RIBA. Your experience is Turkiye wanted to be religious, a good Muslim country, but people's imaan will be tested because of it. People shouldn't just say Turkey is like this and like that, people especially Muslims should say, is housing millions of Syrians more important than my increased rent, we should ask if is it better to have lower interest rates or expensive groceries, this is a question of our imaan.

I'm sorry for your experience and I understand where you're coming from, May Allah make our Muslim nations rich and prosperous whilst following the Islamic guide. Salaamunaleykum. Also, I agree with everything you said but just wanted to give some context.

I wish you well. I’m sorry to hear you’ve experienced difficulties, but it’s like that in London too.

As a Turk, our people mostly do not speak any other language simply because we have never had colonisers to teach us their language. We didn't force any other people to learn turkish either. That is why there is no other country in the lands of former turkic empires' lands that are speaking turkish other than turkey and other turkic countries.

I totally agree. I came in Türkiye 7 years ago through the scholarship that you mentioned. Believe me if I would not have had that scholarship it would have been impossible for me(us) to survive. Back than it was affordable I could say but the last 3 years have been insanely tough 🙄 . Add to this that we had to move from dormitory into an apartment due to our baby and family start... rough times, yes. But the city is amaaaazing, so much to explore, the history, the mosques and the islamic education opportunities( for kids too) attract you so much ❤. Still very happy of having the chance experiencing all this. Elhamdulilah ❤❤❤

I am from iran. it's been 3 years that i study here. I think young people can speak English. Only old people can't speak like my parents, it's normal. I think still turkey is cheaper than many countries. I love turkey, lovely people. I swear to God I haven't seen any racist people. They're always so nice. They like when i speak turkish😅 if you respect their culture they respect you back.

At the end, it were Doctors in Türkiye who saved my mother and NOT GERMAN HOSPITALS. Elhamdullillah it were the Turkish doctors there who just with a check up for sth. else, found the tumor that the German doctors in the country I was born and raised in Germany could not find.
At the end of the day, it is Türkiye who raises a lot of good doctors. There is a reason why people cry to go to Hacettepe University.
You say it is not a muslim country, but sister can't you see, how much students in Europe struggle ? They do not hear the call to prayer, they do not have prayer rooms in universities. No one understands when they fast and eat but there is nothing to eat at our time at the cafeteria at uni. In Türkiye no one forces You to smoke. So if you are trying to tell they should not study in Türkiye only because of smoking ?? And because of the economy?? That is a joke I am sorry. A lot of German student here cry because they can not even get the chance to get into medical school in Germany and need to move out to Bulgaria to private schools and do not learn English.
Türkiye is a very good opportunity for those who want to become great doctors InsAllah may Allah make it easy for You and bless You.

Hello Amina, I agree most of what you are suggesting. However, there are excellent public private universities that medium language is English..These included: Bogazi university, ODT(Middle East Technical University ), Istanbul Tech University and others are amongst the top best universities in Turkey thought in English fully. As a graduate from one of these universities it needs to have SAT exam for undergraduate and GRE or GMAT for postgraduate students. Overall, I would also suggest foreign students to study prestigious private universities such as Bilent university, Koç University, Sabanci University, TOBB, Bilgi university and Bahcesahir University. These are the best if you are interested and went to have a good education experience.

I just got back yesterday from Turkey on a 4 weeks holiday. I have visited 9 different European countries, 2 Asian countries and 7 African Countries and I can tell you that of all these countries I have been to, Turkey is the worst hit when it comes to smoking. I have seen old men, old women, Hijabis, non Hijabis, High School students in their uniforms....all comfortably smoking without anyone batting an eyelid! Taxi drivers with clients in their cars can just start smoking!!! The worst part of it all is the 2nd hand smoke non smokers like us inhale. I jokingly estimated to my sister, whom I travelled with that we must have each smoked at least 3 sticks of cigarettes in second hand smoke in our four weeks stay. LOL.

That said, I think this video captured Turkey in all its good and bad glory but I still think its a beautiful country to live and to visit. The people just need to be more open minded about the world we all live in. No one is an island and no amount of living in a bubble and being ultra sensitive and defensive about it can shield the Turkish from the realities of global living. They need to understand that life can change in the twinkle of an eye. We are all witnesses to how Ukranians, Syrians, Libyans and most recently, Sudanese, literarily just went to sleep one day and woke up as refugees in other people's countries. Not one country is immune to these things so we have to learn to be more tolerant of foreigners so fate can be kind to us too should we ever find ourselves in their shoes.

The number of Turkish people in this comment section rudely defending racism in the guise of patriotism is sickening. It only shows narrow mindedness, a lack of exposure and reiterates the complaints made in the video above. That is not the attitude of people who are open to change or who understand that life is inherently very unpredictable.

To be fair, the reason the majority of Turks not speaking another language is not because they see Turkish as superior to other languages. It is simply because the foreign language classes here in school are very poor and not well organized. You would have to go to a private school to be able to speak English and those type of schools are expensive. Everyday people here, don't speak good English and lower class people hardly even know English. Another factor is that foreign language courses are also expensive. Also, keep in mind that half of Turks don't own a passport and even if they do, our passport is weak and traveling to a foreign country to speak in a foreign language is not easy for everyone. It's not like in Europe where you can travel within the continent in a matter of hours and access different languages all the time.

I don't know what it is with Somalis from Kenya denying that they are Somali. Shameful. Your ancestors were successful Freedom Fighters and you aren't even mentioning a little bit of your ethnicity.

Let them speak there language.. They didn't force you to come to their country.. Why you expecting them to know english for you for others? It's your fault you went there to study why did you choose to go there to their country if you don't know their language??
