Mastermind, O'saa's Moonscorch Form Lore #fearandhunger2

O’saa’s moonscorch into Mastermind is unique as he is the only character not to scream in pain and instead seemingly accepts his fate as he goes into a meditative stance. The Mastermind may seem like it has agency for a moonscorched being, but it is actually the representation of O’saa fear of being controlled by external forces. Most of O’saa’s life has been guided by events outside of his control as he grew up in the war torn land of Abyssonia, his pursuits to gain power by channeling the power of the Old Gods, and how Nas’hrah guides him as the beheaded wizard item. The name Mastermind is how O’saa truly wants to be, the one in control of his own life and events in the world, and the form and dialogue of Mastermind is similar to the Greater Mumblers of the first Fear & Hunger as he will only mumble in battle, and the Mumblers are beings warped by the God of the Depths influence, mirroring how O’saa is afraid of being controlled by the influence of the Gods that he wants to gain dominion over. The head of Mastermind reinforces this as it appears to be a mushroom-like fungus which in the real world can be parasitic and take over their hosts actions. In an interesting parallel Mastermind can be seen meditating in the overworld and will cast hurting on the player as they approach him just like the Yellow mages do in the original Fear & Hunger who directly worship Gro-goroth and follow Nas’hrah, which shows how O’saa fears becoming a pawn of Nas’hrah like the Yellow Mages before him.

I hear that O’saa’s transformation isn’t him accepting his fate, but rather trying to resist it. He goes into a lotus pose during the transformation, which might signify a desperate yet futile attempt to keep himself in control.

To Me, It Seems That O'saa Almost Starts To Cry Then Goes Into Lotus Pose To Try And Keep Some Control

Kinda ironic how he's a playable character and he has an issue being controlled by external forces.

His lack of transformation apart from the head also reinforces what his fears are. A clearly unknown and alien entity controlling his perfectly normal body.

Which goes to show how disconnected he was from the people that caused the events that radically influenced his life.

When you get moonscorched.
Most characters: screams in pain.
O'saa: Accepts his fate calmly.
August: No.
Daan: Yes.

Fun fact: if we assume his head IS a fungus, most of the biomass of fungi is located underneath the ground, so his entire insides would be a network of mycellium. Totally consumed.

Tied with Tanaka for the least amount of actual transformation.

Your videos randomly started popping up in my feed around a week ago, and single handedly have gotten me really interested in the Fear and Hunger series!

Osaa without a doubt the absolute best design the series dropped. Dude is DRIPPED TF OUT. Never gonna play the games but I'd love more of just his story

The more F&H lore i see, the more I'm beginning to believe that it is a universe where the concepts of "psychology" and "hugs" were never discovered.

You could also say the full face being covered/transformed could be similar to how the old yellow mages kept their faces covered. A silly reach in logic? Probably

I've never played this game, but I really like his design. Very cool character

Were I O'saa and I came across Scorched Henryk, I'd realize there could be some ability to fight it...since he's in Meditation, he may still be in there, but fully mentally taxed, trying to drive you away from distracting or killing him while he fights to retain himself.

Off topic but I love O’saa’s character design. One of my favorites in the whole series tied with Enki

Idea!
Character: A lone warrior who yearns for a truly great opponent. His greatest end would be falling in combat to a foe better than him.
Moonscorched Warrior: A feeble, cowardly creature, unable to cause any real harm on its own, too scared to try anyway.
Special Interactions: Give it a gift.
If it’s something nice, maybe he’ll carry your stuff. He’ll bring you random objects of varying usefulness. Stays with you as an aid, so long as you keep him from harm.
If its a weapon, he will use it for sepuku. You receive some coins and

I feel like there should be a secret ending where everyone goes and survives the events of termina

O'Saa has fear of something? The game literally says he's dead inside, never thought of it. (Even though, he really doesn't want to be controlled, which is suggested in his ending.)
He's still stays one of the best chads of Fear&Hunger.
