WaterTok has taken over the internet! As a registered dietitian, I've got some thoughts. Who is even participating in this trend? Is this even water at this point? What's the deal with the viral Stanley cups? I cover it ALL in this video.

Back when I did keto and cut out sugar my sugar addiction made it so I consumed way too many bottles of diet soda. I was hydrated in the sense I had water but without the other electrolytes it eventually contributed to me feeling a bit unwell.
I feel like the reason people have such a visceral reaction to this is an association with the type of person who makes these waters. People see the heavier people who did weight loss surgery or former sugar addicts. And the "average" person thinks "their issue is that they are excessive" and when the person now has to add a million flavorings people instinctively feel like it's still wrong because of the excess. But I would argue it's actually the best solution. If these people have an innately excess driven mindset than letting them have something that they can overconsume without having calories may scratch the same itch and help them achieve their health goals.
I do think these promoters should also promote drinking more normal water as well and then the critics may calm a tiny bit.

Water tok influenced me but after while I noticed I got bad headaches when drinking these packets that are so concentrated! Even in 40 oz of water ! Imagine putting in two packets plus syrup … Chile please !

Love this video. At home, I can drink water straight from my tap (love well water). At work, not so much. It's disgusting. After my first water of the day is drank, I need to refill from our filtered water system at work (hello, soapy water tastes). So I've been using flavored water packets for years. Love finding Watertok, because now I get to shake things up a little (some of these women are way more creative than I will ever be). Thank you for bringing a logical analysis to this trend.

I have a hard time drinking plain water if it’s not hot outside. So putting a squirt in helps me. It also keeps my kids from drinking sugary drinks. There are also plenty of options that are more natural or don’t have artificial colors if we’re concerned.

Thank you for mentioning us POTS patients! I also have gastroparesis which causes water nausea for me, I live off of sweetened ice tea and the satchets for water. Idc what wellness culture says

Hannah I always love your content! Personally I've tried to keep a taste for basic drinks. As a bartender, I see this a lot. People get a particular taste for something like peach Crowne royal with diet sprite. The problem comes when the bar doesn't carry peach Crowne or diet sprite. A good bartender will try to get as close to your preferred taste as they can.

I love to drink a peppermint mocha but I've found I can make do with mixing hot chocolate and coffee at the gas station and throwing in a peppermint candy.

I'm also really blessed to live in a place with abundant fresh water and robust water treatment.

I had friends who had well water growing up and I could not stand the taste or smell of it.

I'm comfortable over here with my tap and Britta filtered water but just like I wouldn't make fun of someone for liking a particular wine or beer or alcohol, I don't think we should make fun of people's taste in water, flavored or unflavored.

I don’t usually add more than one packet to my waters, but I just feel happy when seeing others enjoy their drinks and feel like they are doing great. Hell I even had a discussion with my coworker about flavor packets or liquids because we are both trying to drink less soda. So far it’s going well! I know it’s not the healthiest option, but it’s helping me with my craving towards regular soda.

What I like to do if I want something like juice but don’t want to drink juice is just adding a tea bag to my water (with ice or whatever). The Tazo Passion Tea is super good and doesn’t need any sweetener, or I’ll just do green tea.

I just think Watertok is funny because essentially every liquid is water. Coffee is water, tea is water, almond milk is water….

I think the overflow of hate originates purely from the workings of the tiktok algorithm. If you watch something, the app will provide you more OF that content, regardless of if your experience was a good one or not. The semantics of 'is it water or not?' creates a load of comments, making the tiktok more popular and spreading it to more fyp's, which starts the cycle anew. As far as I know ( I don't use tiktok ) there are not many ways to customise your tiktok feed outside of 'training' the algorithm by intentionally pulling your attention away from what you don't like, and focusing it on what you DO like (which is NOT an easy skill)

Ngl I kind of thought that the whole 'let people do as they please' was a gimme. I was fascinated by the watertok trend because it was a glimpse into a word I was never gonna enter, so I never saw the toxic side of it nor the raging debate

Nice video. Some of the comments about flavored water reminds me of people comment on msg making whataboutisms about how "unhealthy" it is.

I add a pack of crystal light because I don't like plain water. Where I don't get it is putting 3 packs and 3 sort of syrups 😂😂 it must be soooo sweet yuk

water is bland. walmart has a sweet tea flavor mio that I've been buying for 2 years now. Makes drinking water a breeze. Yes, it's water. You can certainly over do them but it's flavored water, nothing more.
