Headfirst is a song about committing to leaps of faith and leaving the outcome to God. It’s also about wrestling with fear—a fear of failure. In a relationship with God, failure is inevitable but the response to failure is where the Lord desires to work too. Will I continue to condemn myself or will I believe God’s grace and allow it to transform my heart’s response?

Headfirst is also a good picture for what faith feels like sometimes. I’m constantly swimming to God—striving, struggling, drowning, being saved. Rinse repeat. The twist in the end is where I realize this whole time I’ve been swimming, it’s actually been the Lord reeling me in. He’s the initiator. He always makes the first move. My heart can only respond. And even in responding to His call, He gives me the strength to do so. It’s a paradigm shift from yourself to the Savior, from works to grace. When you know God more, you trust Him more because you know He is good and will never let you drown.

My favorite lyrics are the last couple lines in the second verse: “I was never swimming, He was fishing me.” I feel like this lyric encapsulates the heart of the record. Faith is less about swimming and more about being reeled in. It’s less about striving to be obedient and more about being drawn in by the goodness of God. That’s the difference between religion and relationship, works and grace. God is the author and the finisher of our faith. I struggle with obedience when I stop relying on Him for the second part, but God does the saving and the sanctifying, and He loves doing both. - MUCH MORE

I imagine listening to this whilst driving in a convertible car, with a gentle summer breeze, completely carefree. Added to my Christian summer playlist!

*LYRICS*
You saved me for much more than this
I pray we never grow too distant again
Or I’m capsizing
Each day I feel less innocent
I crave a soul that never sins, oh this flesh
Can You baptize it?

So I’m diving headfirst
Til my eyes see fishes
I’ll survive the pressure
Or just die and live with it

I can’t swim
It feels like I’m dancing in slow, slow motion
Start paddling
And overreacting until the ocean
Fades from blue to black
My soul starts to detach
A glimpse of heavens light
I see the Father’s eyes
His grace like buoyancy
The waves I swam beneath
But I was never swimming
He was fishing me

So I’m diving headfirst
Til my eyes see fishes
I’ll survive the pressure
Or just die and live with it

Underwater, not watered down
Truth is anchored to the ground
Holy Father, hold me now
Til the waves stop crashing
Ooooh
Til the waves stop crashing down
Ooooh
Til the waves stop crashing
Ooooh
Til the waves stop crashing down
Ooooh
Til the waves stop crashing

Man, there aren't many Spirit-led believers. Not as much as the number of "Christians". Its sad to see, really, that so many dont understand that it's a relationship the Trinity wants. Disciples, not converts. Sons and daughters, not modern-pharisees.
For the ones that are, though, they sure follow the Lord.
Felt the Spirit when I was reading the lyrics.
Keep on going, you're changing lives.
