Genetic Markers or DNA Markers

Genetic markers are known DNA sequences which can be used for studying any kind of polymorphism. A genetic marker is a known location on a chromosome used for identification of individuals among and between species.
Thus from the definition, we can say that broadly, the Genetic markers are used,

For studying any kind of alterations (polymorphism)
Identification of individuals
