Blind Tooling a Leather Book #shorts

Hello everyone! In this short I’m using a hot brass tool to impress a series of rosettes into the leather spine of this book in a process called ‘blind tooling’. (It’s called ‘blind’ because I’m not using gold leaf to embellish the design.) Both the book and the tool in this short were handmade by yours truly. Did you heat these tools ahead of time? It looks like you are barely applying any pressure!
