Bombshell Announcement: The Sigma fp Full Frame Camera

Показать описание
Sigma has announced a new compact, full frame, interchangeable lens camera: the fp! The fp, or fortissimo/pianissimo (Italian for very big and very small), is the smallest full-frame interchangeable lens camera ever, and it comes to us from Sigma, an unlikely source if you asked a majority of the camera industry. It may reframe your perspective about what the "L-Mount Alliance" among Panasonic, Leica and Sigma actually means.

The Sigma fp uses a full-frame, 24.6-megapixel, backside-illuminated Bayer sensor, which is in the same vein as what we've seen inside both the Sony A7 III and the Panasonic S1, for example. Though not exactly the same resolution, it's likely a Sony sensor made for Sigma based on the specifications from the IMX410C1K CMOS sensor offered by Sony's sensor division. That sensor is capable of capturing 4K UHD (there are no cinema 4K options offered on the fp) in both CinemaDNG RAW and MOV (ALL-I) to the single SD card slot or external recorder. It will capture CinemaDNG RAW in 8bit, 10bit or 12bit at 23.98p. It can also capture 1080p Full HD footage up to 119.88p in 4:2:2 8bit.

Thanks for watching everyone! Some corrections/clarifications:

1) The Sigma fp is fully weather sealed, which we confirmed for you: "The SIGMA fp is built with a signature heat sink structure and sealing on 42 points for a dust- and splash-proof structure, making it a perfect camera to use for long hours under all types of environments."

Looking back, your video was spot on about the importance of this camera. After watching it and s few others, I started saving, and pre-ordered it immediately when it became available. Thank you.

REALLY hoping the 12-bit cDNG RAW can record straight to an external SSD and won't need a recorder... Please Sigma.

When the alliance was announced, Sigma said they were going to develop a full-frame camera for that mount. So no surprise really. I think the surprise was no rumor blogs caught this as the main focus the last few days were the new mirrorless lenses for the FE and L mount. So they hid this pretty well and that was the surprise IMO.

Thanks for this video. I'm taking a second look at the FP now that the Sony FX3 has been released. I believe that Sigma FP is probably the only that can immediately compete with the FX3. If they can keep what they've introduced, enhance it more and add the feature set of the FX3 with the current price-point, I'd buy the FP hands down. The FX3 should provide Sigma with the inspiration to take the camera to the next level. The images are already great!

Honestly this is Sigmas cinema camera that happens to shoot stills. Backwards version of C/N/S/P are building. Sigma is going to disrupt Red if it works well and is priced right. Makes sense with their large and popular cinema lens line.

Nice, but right now the available cameras I am looking at are the Zcam E2 or BMPCC4K. Still going to wait to see what the S1H and A7sIII bring to the table first.

I could be wrong but it looks like you’re the first person on YouTube to talk about this camera. It honestly looks like a game changer for Sigma. I’m really curious what the price will be.

Great review. I also got some information of SIGMA f/p from Sigma website. I am sure you will provide us more about the camera and three lenses (pros and cons) before its release.

No EVF ??? Sigma produces very fast lenses, but how do you want to frame and focus properly without EVF ?

I am unreasonably excited for this camera. It will be interesting to see the accessories. They've showed a ton in the teaser video. No mechanical shutter makes me worried about dust more than rolling shutter. I hope companies make a 3-4imch monitor. I hope it's around $2k or less price point. As someone who takes video and photos, but I need to be highly mobile, this is very intising

Looks like it's aimed mostly at the video market. The huge screen magnifier is supposed to compensate for a lack of viewfinder??? Deal killer.

Canon magic latern is still amazing for raw video...

I would acquire this gadget in a flash, if only it could automatically insert whaling background music and frequent jump cuts to save on future editing.

They are trying to fill in the gaps of "MUH FULL FRAME BOKEH".
Meanwhile BlackMagic is working on optimising the whole workflow.
I'd actually argue that the best invention from BM isnt the Pocket 4k which I own and abuse all the time... Its the BRAW, which is extremley user friendly, while still exchanging well aimed punches with CDNG.

As a professional working in this field for the last 8 years... I'm not changing my BM stuff for sigma anytime soon.
Numbers are one thing. Usability is another.
