"Just one more thing" is actually brilliant now that I think about it. If you were a criminal in front of an authority figure, you would be delighted to see them leave, thus letting your guard down and slipping up if they were to return for a quick question they remembered.

yes...and the hand gestures, the posture of humility, his expressive "eye"(s), him apologizing all the time, that rain coat, that little notebook, can never find his pencil, the cigar, a boiled egg for his "snack-on-the-go", his dog (named "dog"), that car, and always, always, coming back to haunt & disarm the guilty with "just one more thing"...Miss You Peter Falk!! We need you (& Columbo!!)

His job was never to establish who was guilty. He knew that right from the start (he read the script in advance). His job was to hound the guilty culprit until he had enough evidence against them.

This is one of those roles you could never recast. No one in the world could portray Columbo. If an actor tries to do his cadences and mannerisms it's just a cheap imitation or if they try to play it differently it's not Columbo. It really can't be done. It was just a role made for Falk and Falk is the only person anybody could ever believe

I rank this as one of the greatest television shows of all time, largely helped by how Falk portrayed Columbo, the humble, bumbling act hiding a brilliant mind that misses nothing. This is one of those shows I hope they never try to reboot or redo in any form, it just couldn't be done.
