Today we begin a journey of trying to find cheap CRTs.

The monitors are the JVC TM-13U, Commodore 1701, and the Commodore 1702.

Dude, that JVC handles Composite with pristine clarity. It's absolutely beautiful. I really would love to see Super Mario Bros. 3 running on RFU for this machine. I bet it's flawless!

I'd like to see a degaussing wand round-up. I've always wondered where to get a fair priced decent wand. More comparisons, please!

I was able to get a 27 inch Sony Trinitron for $35 in the Facebook marketplace. Best purchase I've made in a while

Just bought a 32 inch Trinitron for that exact price. Late model 4:3 KV-32FS320 with component inputs and everything, in great condition. Worth setting some craigslist alerts for!

Maybe you could do a video on how to properly pack a smaller crt for shipping? I think that’d be good for those possibly looking to sell and ship smaller crts!

That Ikegami-branded DT-V in the background during the unboxing part!! Those DT-Vs are pretty much the best pro CRTs ever. If Adrian sent it in for repairs hopefully it goes well, would love to see a video on that one!

I found one for free. The power of the Facebook marketplace. It has component inputs, outputs 480i, comes with the remote and can run 50 and 60hz. That last was was really important to me being in the PAL region

JVC is a great alternative for sure Steve. I started off with JVC because of it's price and moved along to other names because of how cheap they were at the time. Still affordable in my books and glad to see JVC mention in your upload bro.

Maybe for a future video, would you like to discuss on unknown brands that are worth investing into bro? I know the Chinese, Taiwanese, and South Koreans had a few that tried to imitate the quality from Sony and Panasonic at one put Steve.

I was able to find a PVM 1953MD for around 50$ last year. Probably the best CRT deal I'll ever find.

Ahh, interesting to finally see a JVC model that uses that same shell mould! I have four 1701 Commodore monitors, only one had a mysterious hole in the bottom centre dark brown bezel... Got my answer - it was where the JVC badge would go. Still hunting down other models that use this shell... Behind the Commodore logo and 1701 plate on this same particular shell, are a bunch of holes. Looks like for 2 LEDs, 4 or more buttons and possible an LED channel number display. Would love to eventually find what model and branding was used with that full setup

I'd love to see a comparison of those three monitors. I'm loving the picture on my 1702.

I have a curious issue watching 4:3 DVDs on it. If I play a DVD on my PS2, Xbox 360, or DVD player. I get this strange peeling at the top of the screen. It's as if one of the interlaced frames is being peeled down like a piece of paper. 4:3 video games however look perfect.

With CRT's it sometimes feels like the best times to get those are long gone. If you can make a deal with city recycling, you might be able to get some on a budget.
Today you need to hunt for other vintage gems: Plasma and CCFL LCD's. These often have an abundance of retro gaming connectors, and may not CRT accurate, but still an amazing picture quality. Some have really nice upscalers and denoise algoritms. Those PC Engine Soldier games look stellar on a 40 inch plasma over the SCART plug. I found very decent plasma's from Panansonic for 30€ or such.

By the way if anyone wants CRT's they are available for Free weekly on the streets of NYC..no Kidding. Its sad to see the massive waste... I try to pick them up when I can but that is no more that 2, I cant store anymore than that.

Two thumbs up for actually putting the kilometer conversion for all of your viewers who use the metric system (the better system IMO)! Appreciate it! Thank you!

Nice. I know Philips was the OEM for the Commodore 1084, and they made their own Philips branded unit, and also a couple for Atari as well. But I didn't know JVC made their own version of the 1701/02, cool! I'm still hunting for a 1701/02 that's not $500 "untested" 😒
