I'm partial to the GM 3800 V6. I've had at least 25 of them over the past 10 years and never had any major failures with them. They actually get fantastic fuel mileage, run really smooth and with regular oil changes last a really long time. I've never had one with the check engine light on and they're just awesome. Anyone could do just about anything to them with minimal knowledge and they have great power for what they are. I still have a 3800 in my 1995 Buick Park Avenue and it still runs like a top and the transmission shifts like a clock. It's a true master piece in automotive technology

Ford made the mistake of dropping the 4.6 V8, AWESOME BULLETPROOF ENGINE

Biggest screw ups Ford and Chevy made. Ford stopped making the 289 v8, and Chevy stopped making the 283v8.
Great on gas, and simple to maintain.
Both companies should get back in the car business. I like trucks for work, but cars for family use.
As it stands, I'll buy a truck, a motorcycle, and completely rebuild my Crown Vic.
And still save money.

I bought an '84 Toyota pickup with the 2.4, 2L diesel engine and proceeded to put over 800 thousand miles on the truck, long enough that the box frame rusted in two and the engine was still running strong. The slant 6 in later years were made a lot cheaper and wore out under 100k, the reason? It lasted too long and Chrysler wasn't making money off of it's parts that wouldn't quit. I was told that Mercedes had a hand in it's design, a good reason for its longevity.
