Calgarians outraged over rezoning plans

Today on the Alberta Roundup with Rachel Emmanuel, Rachel speaks with Calgary Ward 13 City Councillor Dan McLean about the city’s plan to amend land-use bylaw in neighbourhoods to allow townhomes and row houses where currently only single-family homes are allowed.

Rachel asks for clarification on what the proposal will mean for residents and how city infrastructure will support the new homes and people.

The mayor wants liberal infrastructure money with all the strings attached for green technology, etc. that is why Danielle Smith is blocking the federal government. With the amount of land, we have the city could build new neighbourhoods with small apartment buildings, row housing etc. plan for the proper infrastructure, sewer, water, parking more transit. It’s ridiculous to try and transform older neighbourhoods into high density.

In Edmonton they have done this already behind our back. Zero consultation. I suddenly learned this when there was already a house built across the street with no notifications ( I live 60 ft radius) of this multiplex. They caused overnight noise and I could nit even complain as city had taken that right away from us as well. This in turn let me do some deep research and findings that you may even be interested in.
