Stewart Copeland of the Police tells the story about how people always tell he's their second favorite drummer because he always finished second to a guy who played for Rush... Neil Peart! Great short about the power of the two greatest trios in music... The Police and Rush!

I was always transfixed by Stewart’s cymbal and hi-hat work, and his uncanny sense of where to use side stick snare shots. I also loved his use of delay and echo, always tastefully utilized in quieter breaks. Similar to Neil, he often created a drum “part” for a song, rather than just providing a beat the whole time. An old friend who is only an intermittent drummer these days also loved both Stewart and Neil as he was trying to learn “everything” about his craft when we were kids in the 80’s. So much there to admire, learn and praise.

“It’s always Neil.”

As well it should.

He is definitely my favorite hi-hat player 😂
Stewart is such a musical percussionist. More than just a drummer no doubt

I need to go back and revisit Rush.
Lately, I have gotten very nostalgic for Geddy’s style

I gotta go with Ringo as the best drummer. He was able to drum behind the absolute best band in the world. I only say that because Ringo is why all these other drummers picked up the drums in the first place. 🙂🙂🙂

Peart and Copeland over Moon and Bonham. Shoutout to Earl Young, pioneer of disco rock drumming has a ton of gold records!!! The Trammps, MFSB, and hit songs by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The O'Jays and more.

Well, Stewart would be happy to know he’s higher on my list than Neil is. And I do love Neil.

Danny Carey will always be number one in my heart.

My favorite drummer is Bonham, he had the luck of timing where recordings went from being tinny and hollow, to sounding full and warm. He made music and wasn't just trying to prove how difficult he could make a song to play. But we don't have to choose Copeland, Moon, Peart or Bonham thanks to youtoob😂

I will take ELP as my favored trio. My influence was Carl Palmer.

Considering that Rush "sponged" off the Police sound, they complimented each other. Rush threw a little reggae in there from time to time.

Think you should have added "Triumph" to that list as well Adam .they might not have been quite as popular as Rush but they were every bit as talented musically speaking

Of course it's always Neil. He was voted greatest musician in all human history by Prog Magazine readers.

Growing up near Toronto, Neil was the best Canadian drummer ever but Bonham was the best drummer who ever lived. So I guess this guy is #3

Being the second greatest drummer after Neil is like being the second smartest guy after Einstein.
