How many rectangles are there? Can you count?

I solved it differently.
This is a 4x3 triangle, meaning there are 5 vertical lines and 4 horizontal lines. We have to choose 2 of each in order to make a rectangle. 5 choose 2 is 10, and 4 choose 2 is 6. By the fundamental counting principle, there are 6x10 = 60 rectangles.

What if we have a fig with same number of columns and rows

There is a smarter and easier way, I'm just a 10th grader so correct me if I'm wrong.

Find number of horizontal lines, in this example its 4
Find number of vertical lines, in this case its 5
Then use the formula (h(h-1)×v(v-1))/4
So (5×(5-1)×4(4-1))/4
