GREAT point! Faith isn't "blind" either. Our faith grows when we remember the Lord's faithfulness!

This is my biggest pet peeve ever. Everybody knows what the word ‘faith’ means in everyday conversation until it’s used in a religious context, then all of a sudden they think it means blind faith. So frustrating.

I also am tired of people using faith as a justification for inaction! I was talking to a “liberal Christian” who defends abortion rights because they don’t want back-alley abortion, and that instead that we should just “pray for the women to make the right choice”. God is not your butler! Sometimes, the prayer is to align your will with God’s so you yourself can act in his name!

I’ve noticed a lot of atheist apologist have a tendency to read the Bible like amateur Christians, or the name it and claim it preachers.

For those mentioned above, that’s why you gotta read the entire verse, and sometimes even the entire chapter.

Unfortunately, it's not just atheists that argue this, many Christians will too. When I teach on this topic, I always say that the author of Hebrews tells us what faith is in the first verse, and then uses the rest of the chapter to explain what they mean. If you are unsure of the meaning, the rest of the chapter is full of many examples.

Right. Trusting in what is not yet seen is not "blind faith", and as far as I can tell, God has never asked for it. In every example of faith given in Hebrews 11, there is a solid foundation to believe what was promised and act accordingly.

Well done. Faith is not an empty promise. It's proven faith...on trust.

Excellent response. I sometimes get so tired of having that debate with people, regarding "faith" in general. Faith is not blind, nor is it wishing. It's trust. Trust in what we know and in who we know and trust in what they promised us.

Was thinking of this the other day.
"Faith" is the active verb of "trust"
"Faith" is the act of trusting in what God has already promised, a promise that you are confident in and so you "act" by abiding in "faith".

I agree whole-heartedly. If they would look at the text, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, " they would find that faith is both substance and evidence. Of what, our wishes? No, but that Hope we place in Christ Jesus to do as He says concerning us, among which He has gone to prepare a place for us and if so He will come and bring us to that place, also since He has left He is able to pour out the Holy Spirit upon us to be with us forever. Since Jesus is forever faithful I can trust Him about this, which I believe is the impact of this statement.

How did Abraham have faith the first time God told him to leave his father and country behind. No history there. Nothing of experience with this God to prepare him to go forward. Faith is a miracle given by God to some and the rest are left blinded. Be grateful you have it.

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:1‭-‬2‬ DPR
Trusting God in the the face of uncertainty builds a confidence in what the mind says is "to good to be true, " and then God proves it's true when he allows us to experience our soul waking up to the Divine reality that exists beyond this physical world. The evidence of this reality is when we are miraculously changed from the inside out by the tangable work of unfathomable love and divine grace. This is the same kind of faith that allowed the saints of old to experience transcendence and mystical union with God.

The problem here is mostly that the definition of the word "hope" has changed. It previously meant looking forward to something good you know will happen, but now it only means you want it to happen in the future
