Lenore, a poem by Edgar Allan Poe.

The young Lenore has passed away at a tender age. Her fiancé, Guy DeVere, cannot weep for her, though he loved her dearly. The mourners beseech him to shed a tear, though the mourners themselves are only interested in Lenore’s fortune. Guy decries their avarice, before explaining why he does not weep.

I know this isn't a poem by Poe, but I would love to hear you read "Ligeia". I have loved that story for years, it's my all-time favorite tale written by Edgar Allan Poe...I love it so much that I had a pet black widow spider named Ligeia.

When I write of Lenore, she’s very much alive - and inhabiting nightmares, waking and sleeping, accompanied by enormous black-feathered *Birds.*

Is this poem, lamenting the death of a beloved lady, is this then a background and context for that other poem in which the famous line “quoth the raven: never more “
