NCD stands for non-communicable disease. Non-communicable diseases are a group of chronic illnesses that are not caused by infectious agents and are not transmitted from person to person. They include conditions such as cardiovascular diseases (such as heart attacks and stroke), diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory diseases (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma).
According to the World Health Organization, NCDs were responsible for an estimated 41 million deaths in 2021, equivalent to 74% of all deaths globally.
