Long tube, equal length 2.5" collector headers+high flow cats+single exit 3.5" Y-pipe+an XXL glass pack resonator will do it. Use reverse flow or a case-style packed muffler at the end to attenuate volume to the desired level. Also, less than a 4" diameter tip(incl dual tips), and have at least 12" of pipe (including tip length) after the final muffler or resonator. Having a stubby tip right on the muffler or a cannon-style muffler with no piping after the muffled section does something to the sound to make it dirtier.

This advice also works to make 4-cylinders sound bearable to decently good, though the collector size and mid-piping size go down to 2.25" or 2.5" for N/A power and 3" for the mid piping for boosted applications at or below 400 wheel. Also, 4-2-1 headers seem to sound slightly better, AND they do more for power production across the mid and low range compared to 4-1. Chambered mufflers are hit or miss for any engine, with the main downside being poor flow.

If you need quiet, Dynomax turbo style mufflers (reverse flow/S shaped flow, whatever you want to call it) do damn good, and if you want moderate, all of their packed oval mufflers are great. ALL of their mufflers are flow-bench tested, too. Unlike shithole companies such as Flowmaster with their 50 to 60-year-old designs.

The best simple setups are 1. Motordyne, 2. AAM Resonated S-Line, 3. Invidia, 4. TopSpeed

ADD PPE EQUAL LONGTUBES TO REDUCE TRUMPET but increase noise.

Idk what this one is but the turbos make almost any exhaust sound good on VQs. I hope this helps any future Z owners not get raspy dogwater exhaust combos.
