Donnie Yen Drops Bombshell - IP MAN 5 in the Works!

Donnie Yen, the unparalleled master of on-screen combat, has just dropped a bombshell—and I want to chime in with my thoughts on the big news, so buckle up because we're going to dive in.

Last weekend, at the Cannes Film Festival, Donnie Yen coming in hot off of an amazing performance in John Wick 4 announced his next 3 upcoming film projects, and one of them continues the Ip Man series when he showed off a movie poster on his social media for Ip Man 5.

We have very little details about part 5 of the Ip Man series other than it's an upcoming project from Donnie Yen and whatever information anyone is able to glean from the movie poster showing off the Mook Jong training dummy and a bunch of bodies and swords scattered across the floor of a room.

After Bruce Lee, Donnie Yen is the best Chinese action star. Wasn’t even a Wing Chun expert, but picked it up very quickly with the help of Yip Mans son. Natural martial artist who can do anything.

I wish they can make a Yip Man 5 about his students specially about Wong Shun Leung, Leung Sheung, Lo Mank Kam( his nephew), and maybe even William Cheung or Hawkins Cheung or his sons Ip Ching and and Ip Chun. Just how he started teaching over all and about his students as well.

I think this movie is not gonna be after the Ip Man 4 because, of course he is dead, but I think this will be a flashback movie that some scenes are not added to the 3rd franchise.. I think it will be about how Ip Man trained Bruce Lee and how Bruce left Wing Chun, passing the techniques to his sons to continue his legacy afterwards and telling the story to the next generation about the life of their Grandmaster Ip Man.

That's what I think will happen in this movie, I think.

I have all the Ip Man movies on DVD, enjoy them for what they are. But as a cinema event in terms of photography, I really loved "The Grandmaster" which I saw in a theater. It was simply stunning in its beauty.

As for technical reality, I've long given up on accuracy and just watch these movies for the martial arts sequences. Nothing I've seen on screen matches the information that I got from my reading on this subject which started in the early '70s.

I will never forget this Elementary School bully would pick on me and my brother during 1956 in Chicago Chinatown. This boy was a well built young black kid about ten years old. Me and my brother were a couple of years younger. Then one morning our Chinese friend stop by to walk us to school. Then all of a sudden this bully was waiting outside our door in the hallway of our apartment building. Our Chinese friend began punching, kicking and fight dancing so fast. The fight lasted a few seconds. Me and my brother never seen dancing fighting like that. That bully never bothered us after that. I called it fight dancing. He told us it is a Chinese fighting art handed down from father to son. That was my first time witness a kung-fu fight in 1956 at 8 years old because no one in our colored neighborhood fight like a ballet dancer.

Golden Bell, the Chinese loves there heroes from the past. About as much as us Americans loves Superman 🦸‍♂️ Batman 🦇 & Spider-Man 🕷. The Chinese film industry will give what their fans wants.

Has to be a Prequel since he died at the end of IP MAN 4 or maybe IP MAN 5 will all be about Bruce Lee and use Donnie as flashback.
