I just pulled out one of these that my grandpa owned, been in a box for 30+ years and I kid you not the Mercury battery s till works. I hit it with a voltmeter 1.35V. Incredible. I shot a roll and the pics look great. That lens is SHARP. A winner all around

Great video! Made me rush to eBay to get my hands on one. Thanks for taking the time to produce this and share it!

From my own experience using this camera, the vignetting comes from wide open aperture F1.7.
Stopped down the aperture a bit, the vignetting goes away mostly.

Fantastic lens, this camera preceded the 35RD, which used the same lens but is smaller and a bit lighter to compete in the then-prevailing trend in small cameras. Note: I've owned a couple and used others; the light meter (at least the spot option) didn't work in any of them - probably an electric switch failure. As with most cameras of this vintage using the robust mercury batteries, there is no "off" switch on the light meter. As a result, the camera will eat up any modern battery quite quickly. Error correction: the camera offers manual exposure control and aperture-auto exposure. It does not offer full (shutter & aperture) exposure as stated.

I wasn't sure if I was gonna get one of these but now I'm positive! Thank you

I agree with Maurice. If you stop down a bit, the vignetting will start to smooth out. But honestly, vignetting is part of the charm.

I got the black version, it's a real nice camera, fun to use, sharp lens.

I place a piece of Black paper tape over the meter to prevent battery drain, and did you know that this model has Program mode, and last that aI use the spot feature as a back light metering mode. over all it is the best compact 35mm RF camera.

I just bought this camera used. Adjusting the aperture and shutter speed are kind of stiff... Just wondering if you had any tips to fix this or if this is normal for an older camera from the 70s.

Thank you for posting. My dad had one of these and I am now looking to sell it. What would you pay for a used one, assuming everything works?

Every short to the point review....
I happen to have the opportunity to stop at a antique shop and came across a Yeshiva Electro 35 GSN Rangefinder WOW!! it was in with case that was pretty beat up but protected the camera from the 70s til it got in my hand:)
Oh did mention it had a battery that actuarial work the camera..cool.
So now I'm on a quest for Rangefinders and google up and came across two videos you and a other.
So now I'm looking for a Olympus 35 SP.
Thanks buddy.

Thanks for the review. I've been considering this camera. Can you explain how the full auto mode works? The camera mechanically adjusts the aperture and shutter speed using the spot meter? That seems too advanced for a 1970s era camera with a tiny battery.
