I was brought up in a working class Irish household singing this song. Next week I start a rail engineering course in Hartlepool. Funny how life treats you.

The way Ronny looks at Luke at the beginning - real lovingly. And the end: well done Luke. So touching me😢

The Irish have such a rich history in folk songs, especially the working men’s songs like this one! 🇮🇪 🚂

Luke was the greatest chanter to come out of Ireland!

The Irish built the railway from New York while the Chinese built it from San Francisco. It changed America, opened the country to settlement and destroyed the Native Americans.

I love Luke Kelly, but you also have to think who else but Shane MacGowan and The Pogues could have covered this and done it justice after Luke.

Luke is a legend uncelebrated, Damien Dempsey is another legend almost as good as Luke ( in my ignorant opinion)
