The Ridiculous Cost Of Attending The Met Gala

While it may have been pushed back this year due to the pandemic, the time for the Met Gala is upon us and we can’t wait.

For years, we’ve seen our favorite celebrities strut down the extravagant red carpet that is the annual Met Gala event. It’s a night full of high fashion, celebrity entertainment and money being raised for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. And when we say “money”, we mean a lot of it. When you have hundreds of celebrities in designer outfits who were approved by Anna Wintour herself, you’d better believe there’s a ton of money involved for an event that costs literal millions to put on.

A single ticket to the Met Gala will easily run you anywhere from $30 - 35,000. And yes, that’s for one ticket! If you’re thinking of buying a table for the event, be prepared to dish out a minimum of $200,000. But you can expect to pay much more than that. In fact, when Yahoo sponsored the event in 2015, they paid a whopping $3 million for two tables. And don’t even get us started on some of the ensembles celebrities have worn over the years. Honestly, the cost of the jewelry that Blake Lively wore in 2018 will make your head spin. When you think about it, there’s no wonder the event is filled with A-list celebrities; they’re the only ones that can afford to go! But nonetheless, every year, most of us can’t help but to get excited for what styles we’ll see on the red carpet.

The tickets/tables are charity donations and tax deductible. The cost of the event makes us wonder how much makes it to support the charity. But it is the best press statement and designers best showcase.

It’s a donation, and these are curated, all the guests are basically picked and chosen down to who sits where and with who.

Even if I was rich ain't no way in the world I am paying that much money just to go to an event. I will be at home watching it from my computer screen lol.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the celebs don't buy their tickets. the brands do and invite them, that's why you see a lot of celebs dressed by the same ppl. same with the jewellery and clothes the brands lend them out and expect them back afterwards. I recall 2019 camp cardi B saying something along the lines of I better not lose the ruby nipples or I'm gonna need to sell my bags - implying she'll need to pay it back.

The jewels are generally loaned and so are most of the gowns. They are made for each celebrity, but in general they go back to the collection of the designer after the gala. Plus, tickets are tax deductible, not really an expensive night if you're a celebrity or among the rich...

So a celebrity can attend for FREE if the celebrity is wearing an outfit by a designer who is being showcased that night. =free ticket & free outfit. Why wouldn't they go!?

Isn't anyone gonna talk about how she said it takes 50, 000 hours to prepare the met gala when there are only 8760 hours in a year?😂 2:47

Hope I had this much money 5 years ago. Then I would be able to go to a good college. It's always mind bulging how someone just spend it in a night and someone's whole 5 years tuition fees less than this

Gosh I had no idea that guests have to pay for attendance (although it’s a donation) but I have seen the food that’s served there and with a 3.5 million budget the organizers could do so much better 🙄 especially if the celebrities donate so much

It is the event for poor not "RICH". Just left with things and no 💸.

Fun fact: Rihanna nearly went bankrupt after overspending and sued her financial advisor. The advisor responded: " If you spend money on things, you will end up with the things and not the money"

The REAL RICH DON'T ATTEND MET.

Really wish the money was going to a more worthwhile institute.

Small change for these celebrities. Their outfits alone cost more than that.

This is why I never understood why The Met charges people to enter their museum.

Heads up fellow broke people: if you want to look at the beautiful art pieces at this museum, DO NOT PAY THEM. Just tell them you are giving them a donation. I'd always give them 10 to 25 cents.
