Nix is something I've thought about picking up for long time. It's just a big rabbit hole that I didn't find time to get lost in. I would absolutely love to see something like your git series for Nix.

Especially after watching this. It's something I have thought about quite a bit, as this is basically how I feel about Rust. It just gives me a lot of confidence, and it's made me realize how underappreciated the effects of fear are. It's basically a huge cognitive burden that is often overlooked because it's not something you can see directly on the screen.

It does remove fear, but it also takes away the process of understanding what you install, how you install it, and how it all works. I think this knowledge is important as the dev gets more Senior.

I run it on a public server and on one hand, I can 'fearlessly' update every night. On the other hand there are a good number of packages which are very old, so I' just assuming blindly that the main exposed packages are being updated. Same for the configuration, non trivial packages have non trivial amounts of code

I guess I don't know the details of debian pkg update, maybe it's also hoping voluenteers update. But it's a little scary
