The birch tree is also good for tapping/ obtaining sap and making pitch from the bark to seal things with.

White birch is in the compound tincture I take for my kidney, which was affected by infection several years ago, and thank goodness for it, because it's kept me out of surgery.

Birch is such a nice recourse. I think it is my favourite tree. It is also the national tree of Norway :)

Makes great soap for personal hygeine as well Lilly: warm water in a bag or container with a bunch of leave and shake it up really good. Wash down and squeaky clean!

Hi Lilly! Another cool video :) The young leaves also make quite ok salad. Traditionally we have used a bundle of birch branches in sauna. As a kind of a whip. Soaked in hot water. We call it "saunavihta" Sounds brutal i guess.. but improves blood circulation and is great for sore muscles. Smells lovely too. So is great for both body and mind.

I tapped my first 2 birch trees last week and the sap was incredible.... I saw an old guy boiling some sap and birch leaves together to make a tea last year and he swore it was an elixir.... Havent tried this myself but I may give it a go as he said he had been doing this every spring since the 1950's and he was 84 years old and still very mobile and fit... Cant hurt I guess.
