Ralph Fiennes is terrifyingly brilliant in this scene and film.

When survivor Mila Pfefferberg was introduced to Ralph Fiennes on the set, she began shaking uncontrollably, as he reminded her too much of the real Amon Goeth.

“They never happened” is all you need to convey just what type of person Amon Göth was and what kind of regime he was serving.

Well he was definitely right about that, that day was certainly history.

“Today is history and you are a part of it”. Be careful what you wish for.

Ralph Fiennes scarred me for life with this performance. It was so cathartic and cleansing to see him years later playing a pathetic, comical, short-tempered, phone-smashing villain in 'In Bruges'.

The terrifying thing is that his knowledge of history is correct. It's exactly what happened. Casimir the Great welcomed a huge part of European Jews who weren't exactly welcomed in other European countries. Poland welcomed up to 70% of European Jews. The official story being that he was crazy in love with his Jewish lover who convinced him to welcome her people to his land. Obviously, that would be why persecuting Jews in Poland was such an important strategy to the Nazis.

All of this is happening in 1943. German forces had been defeated at Stalingrad and the USA is in the war. The bombing campaign is massively gearing up. The U-boat war is hopeless, and German forces are trapped in North Africa.

Most German officers knew the war was lost by this point - and they went along with the fantasy of eradicating Europe of Jews anyway. In fact, the Final Solution was not decided upon until the *the next day* after Hitler declared war on the USA.

It gets even crazier when you realize Goth was only the head of Plaszow in 1943 - when the Germans suffered unending defeats on land, sea and air. And still the Holocaust Goth was furiously prosecuting continued. We are losing 3, 000 soldiers a day? 45, 000 civilians died when Hamburg was firebombed? Ummm...kill more Jews?

I don’t know what Goth was thinking. He knew that he would be executed for his crimes after the war. Yet here he is anyway.

Historian Ian Kershaw suggests this was partly a coping mechanism - the Nazis knew they were going to lose the war, so they sought catharsis in the idea that they would be taking as many Jews as possible with them.

Imagine if they decide to make Voldemort a charismatic villain like this and not the lesser being we are told in the HP books

Is there any truth to what he said? From anyone who is well knowledgeable on this subject?
