I bought Fearless on DVD when it came out. I cried at the end when Huo Yuanjia died. Beautiful movie, one of my favorite martial arts films of all time.

I introduced Fearless to one of my friends as one of my favorite films (still is when it comes to Jet Li films) and it completely changed his views on life in a good way. My friend stopped seeing everything as a competition and stopped being so quick to throw a punch in almost every aspect of his life.

About the first Russian, 賣藝 could be more accurately translated to street performance or basking, not actually selling art. So he perhaps was fit and knew some moves, though quited fighting Huo.

The russian athlete was publiquely asked to fight Huo Yuanjia but after many demands for changing the fighting rules to his advantage ( and after Huo Yuanjia agreed ), the wrestler learned about the fighting skills of the man he was supposed to meet and he runned away with all his crew. The day came and Huo found an empty place with an angry crowd which paid to watch the fight, so, some experts proposed to fight against Huo Yuanjia who said he was a patriot and didn't want to fight some chinese citizen for entertaining peoples. They finally made an exhibition of their distinctive styles. Huo Yuanjia's life had been recorded through his public challenges and the many exhibitions he made of his iron body and striking power which were taken on photograf. One of the most remarkable master of contemporary times.

as a martial arts fan, i doubt that Huo isn't like that at all. Bruce Lee was the most arrogant martial artists. He can't be worse than that.

And the drinking thing; You can't mix martial arts with drugs. Huo was very skilled in his art and became famous for it. It's impossible for him to enjoy alcohol that much. Maybe when he retired.
