Mission Hospital named one of America's best hospitals for 2023

Mission Hospital in Asheville was named one of America's 50 best hospitals for 2023.

Mission Hospital is in serious trouble. HCA is being sued by the state for causing the quality of care to fall dramatically since they bought out Mission Health in 2019. The hospital has received several failed inspections & is at imminent danger of losing CMS approval for Medicare & Medicaid reimbursement. This is no joke. The State of North Carolina must share some of the responsibility for this calamity as a result of its approval of the sale to such a notorious for-profit company. The Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) has been investigated & sued so many times for negligence, fraud, & other illegal or unethical business practices, it's a wonder anyone would sell an essential asset like Mission to them. Makes you wonder.

This award is justified because they have top notch physicians, nurses, and equipment. They will save your life. That being said...you will wish you were dead. There is no teamwork. This is not the fault of the staff who actually care about their patients, but the management. Profits have relegated patient care into a low priority. They will save your life, but you wait an hour in your own waste while the staff deals with their other patients. Even if a nurse does not have a call pending with their four or five patients (depending on the unit you are in) they will only say "I will notify your nurse" if you ask them for a painkiller, to be taken to the bathroom, or even picked up from the floor. Other hospitals do a better job of caring for their patients, some nurses will tell you frankly, "We would rather you pee in the bed, util we give out the daily meds." No hospital will please everyone, but Mission knows how to hit certain benchmarks except customer service (other hospitals can save lives and treat their patients with dignity through teamwork-it is absent in Mission).
