Cloudy Pool Water After Shocking

So we put pool chlorine in our pools to shock it, wait a few hours, then come back to find our pool has turned cloudy after shocking. What's going on?

Cloudy pool water after shocking could be one, or a combination, of things. The most common are:
1. Over-use of calcium hypo
2. High calcium hardness
3. High pH
4. Improperly working filter
5. Over-use of phosphate removers and enzyme
6. Early sign of an algae bloom
