Although you're right that the shine can be caused by the lamp, it's actually not dependent on wattage, but the amount of UV omitted, which can depend on amount of diodes/tubes and their target wavelength. The way gel cures is by the lamp omitting a wavelength UV, that's roughly between 100 nm*. and 400 nm. most UV gels require the use of 350 nm. to cure. (*Nanometres) If your lamp does not target the required wavelength, it will never cure, regardless of wattage. The other part I'd just like to clear confusion about is that LED lamps are still UV lamps. What you're referring to is UV tube bulb lamps vs. UV LED lamps. "LED" stands for "light emitting diode, " which refers to the type of bulb an LED gel lamp uses, not whether it's UV or not. They're both UV. LED is being used nowadays because it's cheaper to produce and better for both the environment and your pocket. I absolutely agree that everyone should invest in a good lamp that can produce the targeted wavelength fast and it'll help the problem to a degree, but if someone for whatever reason cannot do this at the moment, I recommend double or even triple curing, let the surface cool for a few minutes (smaller lamps are closer to the nail) and wipe with alcohol - not acetone, and then cure again. ❤ Xx

I have the sun nail lamp 120 wats and yes it cures beautifully! And I love how the bottom is detachable if I want to raise it up so I can adhere my full overage tips with base gel.

I didn't even realize it could be the lamp. You had me go check mine out... I got one from Walgreens a couple yrs back... It cost $31, Sally Hansen, but I looked everywhere, & nothing on it tells me the wattage... I got a smaller one from 5 Below, & it said 6 watts, & I love it, but not even noticing a shiny problem... I think the shine can be due to wear & tear also?.. GREAT info share😊😊

I just got a gel nail kit, and I only had a UV mini-lanter to test them lol, the polygel dried just fine, but the top coat gets all spotted (shinny blobs).
I decided to test and cured one nail for 2 min, wich got 100% dull after wiping w/ alcohol, and another for 4 min, wich got spotted 'cause I didn't move the lanter around evenly lol

Thanks for the info. But why does your nails look wonky? Left index is very flaired out and the right one is very skinny. I’ve seen many ppls nails like that. Just wondering if that is a trend?

If your top coat gets dull, just wipe it with rubbing alcohol and it will shine back up again
