Divers Guide to Diving the Zenobia Wreck in Cyprus with ALPHA DIVERS.
We were picked up at our hotel in Larnaca by Chris the owner of Alpha Divers. First impressions, made us feel very welcome, very easy going, but showed a confident professionalism in his approach to the following 6 dives.
Chris drove us to the dive centre nearby whereby he checked and verified our certifications and experience. Completing all the necessary paperwork and insurances etc all at the same time.
We then progressed to preparing our kit for the following days diving including twins sets and off board decompression gases etc.
Once we all completed this we were then taken back to our hotel, with a view to starting our day 1 diving the following day meeting at the marina at 8.45am.
Day 1
Met with Chris and his team at the marina, whereby we received briefing on the procedures of the vessel and what we could expect from Alpha divers and what alpha divers expected from us.
Once all the equipment was loaded onto the boat we where off to the Zenobia Wreck which was a short distance away just outside the harbour.
Once on the wreck Chris and his instructor diver delivered a full extensive brief for the up and coming 2 dives. Water signals, dive plans where reviewed to include max decompression times and or gas turnaround times. The first dive was an external dive around this awesome wreck , this was in order that we could all work together as a team and get a good general orientation of the wreck.
Dive 2, we had some wreck penetration through the passenger areas and the bridge.
These dives where can only be described as super fantastic although on reflection it would seem that during these dives we were all being accessed for our competency which agin another sign of professionalism of this dive centre.
Dive 3 & 4
These were all mostly more penetrations around the car decks which was pretty impressive with plenty of marine life and lovely clear waters.
Dive 5 & 6 – THIS WAS THE DIVE!!
Chris delivered a very extensive brief it became very clear that this was going to be dive like no other.
This dive involved entering the mid truck decks and working our way through the wreck and exits out through to the top car decks. I could not if I tried to find my way through this route; however at no time did anybody feel cautious as the brief and the in water communication was so extensive and well executed.
I recognise that the wreck routing planning may have taken maybe 100 painstaking dives in order to map safely a route so to provide a safe and interesting journey for his divers.
My personal belief is that there may be no other dive centre on the island can offer this experience.
What can I say, if any diver wants to dive the Zenobia on this type of profile, then accept no substitute go straight to Alpha divers and Ask for Chris.
