In the first episode of this special series on artificial intelligence, Rappler’s CEO Maria Ressa speaks to computer scientist Professor Mike Wooldridge about the promise and the dangers of AI.

Ressa received the Nobel Peace Prize for her investigative journalism in the Philippines and work combating disinformation online, highlighting the dangers of social media to democracy globally.

Author of A Brief History of AI, Mike Wooldridge is the director of Foundational AI Research at the Alan Turing Institute and professor of computer science at Oxford University.

AI is no different from an iPhone, no different from an Atari, no different from a television, no different from a phonograph, no different from the camera obscura!

AI IS NOTHING BUT A TOY DESIGNED TO STIMULATE A PERSON’S SENSES FOR WHATEVER REASON. Ultimately, a real human being’s common sense will matter. Simply turn off the toy and go back to basics of real human interaction. Stop letting a toy decide for you or letting the toy think for you. THINK FOR YOUR SELF!

Maria Ressa, why haven’t you tackled mainstream media lies? How big corporate companies have taken over media, turning them into their own marketing department for profit? How pretty much journalists have become jesters posing as journalists?

Social media is not the threat, IT IS MAINSTREAM MEDIA. Stop worrying about disinformation in social media, confront disinformation in mainstream media.

From what I see already of AI is that it is making everything homogenized. I watched a video generated from text using AI. It was depressingly boring. What about students copying and pasting big sections of text into their essays? Where is their individuality and personality? The default style dominates worldwide. The teddy bear I have drawn for my identifier here on YouTube I drew. I refuse to use a default image.
