As brutal as that was, Vegeta had the right idea. Ginyu has shown that his Body Swap is INCREDIBLY dangerous multiple times at this point, and even if they defeated him in Tagoma's body, nothing's stopping him from, say, stealing Gohan's body and leaving him in Tagoma's now-crippled form or something.

Killing Captain Ginyu quickly, before he could change bodies, is really the only smart way to fight him.
