Block Heater Makes a Big Difference - 2019-2023 Ram EcoDiesel

A while back I made a video installing the winter front on my 2022 Ram with the 3.0 EcoDiesel engine in it. As well, I showed the routing of the extension cord for the block heater.

This last week I had the opportunity to put it to the test, and this combination kept the truck warm! You can see the block heater kept the truck engine about 59 degrees when it was -15 outside. About a 75 degree spread is pretty impressive. Even after the engine started and coolant was circulating, it was still much warmer than ambient temperature.

The drive to work this day I saw temperatures as low as -18 F but I stayed toasty in the cab. Just wanted to make a short video showing the real world difference. Last year we saw -30 temps. I might make a short showing the difference then if I experience that once again.

Thanks for watching!

You did a great job explaining yourself. I really like your set up very nice. The light in receptacle, that was thinking ahead for dark mornings. Even radiator cover was cool to see.

When I ordered my skid loader and excavator, a block heater was my most important option. You are correct about it making a big difference!!

Can you close the hood when you have the block heater plugged in? Really wondering if there’s a hole or somewhere I should stick the extension cord to? Thanks

Been years since I had a block heater, I wish my trucks/car had them

We had block heaters on all of our tractors when I was growing up on our dairy farm. They meant the difference between spending 2 hrs to get a 20min job done or the thing starting right up and getting out of the cold. Only one tractor had a cab and it wasn't used everyday like the barnyard and feeder tractors.

You don’t need to idle for 15 minutes man 2 minutes would have been fine
