Postmedia hockey columnist Bruce Garrioch joined SportsCentre to share his thoughts on whether or not the signing of Vladimir Tarasenko fills the void left behind by Alex DeBrincat, how motivated Tarasenko will be on such a short term, and if more moves can be expected from Sens GM Pierre Dorion.

So we in a way replaced Debrincat with Kubalik and Tarasenko. Both players project to put up 50-60 points the Sens got deeper and better on paper

Ottawa is a deeper team. Hopefully they stay healthy. 6 pts out of a playoff spot with a depleted line up and shotty goaltending. 3 wins. They missed by 3 wins. Kubalik is underrated as well and your look to Timmy Stu, Norris to take another step forward. On paper the team looks good. Gotta stay healthy. And they NEED to be well over .500 by November.

What are the Sens telling you to say to today, Bruce? In all seriousness though, it's low risk and high reward. One year isn't bad regardless. Even if he scores the 18 goals he scored last year that helps. Will be interesting to see how this plays out for them.

With the down season debrincat had Kubalik essentially filled that and tarasenko finished that gap and more

Replacing Debrincat with Tarasenko reminds me of the time the Sens tried to replace Dany Heatley with Alexei Kovalev. The Sens traded a player that didn't want to be here (Heatley, Debrincat) got a player who was decent, but not as good (Michalek, Kubalik) and signed an aging Russian forward to fill the gap (Kovalev and Tarasenko). History repeating itself

Tarasenko Norris Kubalik > Debrincat. Sens are a much stronger team going into 2023-2024.

They should have drafted the guy in 2010 Many Sens fans were mad he was still there at 16 and pick traded for prospect Runblad

Ok I take back my comment I checked the site but did not do math . They are covered so it is just the Shane Pinto contract. If the Leafs can not make moves to get deeper in playoffs I may have to watch the other Ontario team lol. They look really good and scary part is without looking at goalies, there are only 3 players over 27 on entire team.

Definitely doesn’t replace DeBrincat. He’ll be a good scorer but not at the level of Cat.

Definitely a downgrade, don't think anyone can argue that, but it's a smart move since they can flip him at the deadline.

Tarasenko's fancy stat numbers have been declining in the 4-5 years. It's amazing Ottawa is a cap team. Upper limit team. Pierre and DJ Smith need to produce or the new owner will clean house.
