Nice touch.I was raised on Shelley Manne, the ‘melodic’ drummer- check the Poll Winners CD’s from the 60’s, I learned from Ray Brown Barney Kessell and Shelley about trading fours totally musically.

Very useful for the soloist too, when he has to count. Sometimes you panic!

Drummers can get complicated. Not resolving or maintaining the underlying rhythmic feel thereby other members must pay close attention to the time.
