Obstruction (full sequence)

This is a great example of obstruction by a third party. Note how the player without the ball in grey uses her body to impede the player in maroon from getting to the ball. This type of obstruction is also called shadow obstruction or a block out. When a secondary signal is used by the umpire to indicate this type of obstruction, the arms are crossed and uncrossed in front of and parallel to the umpire's torso. The signal is one of three different obstruction signals -- 'regular' obstruction (fixed arms across the torso), stick obstruction (basically an upside down obstruction signal whereby the umpire 'demonstrates' crossed sticks), and obstruction by a third-party (arms crossed and uncrossed in front of and parallel to the umpire's torso).
