Got the i5 10400, best budget purchase i have made. Now looking to get rid of my old GTX 1070 and replace probably with a RTX 3070. The initial amount spent to build my system was USD 600. CHEAP. Money i saved can probably buy another MB and CPU soon down the line. Cant imagine the bonkers amount paid by some people buying a i9-10900 and a RTX 3080 a year back. Probably 3 to 4 times i paid for mine.

So the i5 10400f has same/better performance than the r7 3700x tested in the previous video for half the cost which makes it a great value cpu or even the best cpu to buy right now for gaming PC considering price-performance ratio. The i3 10100f holds even more value than the 10400f especially if you pair it with a lower-tier gpu like the rtx3060ti.

My conclusion is: save on the CPU, spend on the GPU. This is pairing with a near-the-very-end RTX 3080 and even so, the i7 makes at most a 10% performance increase in framerate compared to the humble i3. So for weaker, budget cards it would be a no-brainer to go with the i3, which is like $200 cheaper. Spending that to jump from GTX to RTX and life is set, even for 1440 gaming.
