There's also a little known fact that feral domestic cats don't actually fish a lot, if at all. They are not programmed for it. The idea that cats love fish is a myth coming from The Great Depression. It was getting harder to feed your family, and many of these families did not, in fact, give up their pets.

Fish was the cheapest meat source at the time. As cats are strict carnivores, their families turned to fish to keep them fed. The idea that cats go nuts for fish comes from how eager cats seemed to be to eat it, and no one bothered to connect the dots that because fish decomposes at a faster rate than non-aquatic meat, the smell is more potent and cats identify it as a food source that needs to be eaten quickly.

Nahh. I have three cats, each of them with different food preferences, despite being on the same diet since birth. The momma cat nowadays won't eat anything but raw fish these days, she'd starve herself to death before even biting into a cooked fish. That's just her. She has the softest fur and healthiest poop amongst all three.

Well, there's a reason domesticated animals tend to live longer. There are a lot of difficulties in the wild that they just don't have to contend with.
People will say that animals are fine in the wild, but what they really mean is the species is fine in the wild.
In nature, everyone's playing dice.
Evolution doesn't care about individuals, only the species as a whole.
But when it comes to your pet, you do care about an individual.

Fish is actually apparently the third most common food allergy for cats, after beef and cheese.
And fish can contribute to urinary infections, more common in male cats.
Animals in the wild might just be worried about their next meal, but a pet owner might need to think a bit farther ahead.

And any type of wild cat can eat any ( not rotten or poisonous ) meat because they are used to eating this type of food as a kitten so it will develop antibodies ( not for every type )
