Wall Street pitched so-called quality stocks with high profitability and low debt, as a kind of insurance against whatever the economy might throw at you. Quality stocks have underperformed the S&P500 this year, My $400k portfolio is down by approximately 20 %, any recommendations to scale up my ROI before retirement will be highly appreciated

Ray, have we all forgotten the debt ceiling is held hostage until the last possible moment and often after a few days? It’s been raised 70 something times in 60 years. It feels like a lot of fear mongering to force capitulation. When can we stop kicking the can? It feels like this is our chance to stop passing the buck and endure some economic hardship to improve the future outlook. Why can’t we work toward a surplus rather than continued operating on debt?

It is required to cut the military spending.

Like many initiatives, understanding urgency comes as step zero. It’s when a threat to all is recognized that we get the best out of people, bipartisan, allpartisan!

last time it was bipartisan was when congress form a commission on military base closing

Imagine not listening to Mr dalio, probably one of the most if not most economic intellectual beings we still have standing.

This would be the rational solution. And then there is politics where part of the game is berating the other party and try and harm their public image instead of working together for the common good

Ridiculous Ray. They need to drastically cut spending and do away with the cornucopia of useless federal agencies. That's it. Nothing bipartisan will lead to that. D.C. is fundamentally broken.

Ray you need to be on that commission!!!!

Surely the USA can't keep borrowing astronomical amounts without dire consequences? The interest payments are becoming unsustainable.

So, do you think it needs to be bipartisan or not? I heard a lot of serious ideas here about the nuts and bolts of cutting our budget. What I’m unsure of is whether or not he’s in favor of it being bipartisan.

I’m having trouble determining who in the government is smart.

I would add a caveat; that all members of this team have their own financial affairs in excellent order with very little to no leverage and that they be at least 35 years of age.

He just described Singapore's Government. Excel in economic and engineering.

The American people don’t want to cut federal spending / lower the debt / lower their quality of life. They enjoy the benefits that future generations will pay. This is collective human nature. Congress is exercising the will of the people.

And maybe, just maybe, is Bridgewater the perfect partner to consult the state for such manners ;)

Ray, how would you handle a bad faith negotiation? Let’s say one side wants this to fail? Or find that brinkmanship is a ”I win, or you lose” situation. How about ”rather rule in hell than serve in heaven”?

So, what you’re saying is we’re screwed?

Raising debt to pay off the interest on your previous debt. If this is not a ponzi scheme, I dont know what
