The Hawaiian flowers are Anthurium.

It's relatively easy to tell if glass is crystal or not. Crystal is at least 24% lead with some like Baccarat at 32%. The lead adds clarity and a touch of gray to the glass. Side by side, regular glass will look almost a pale yellow. Old cut crystal had manganese in it. This turned lavender with exposure to sunlight.

Crystal fell out of favor for two big reasons. One, the household staff dwindled because many men went to WWI and either didn't come back or came back disabled.
Women left because they found out that there was more to life than working on someone else's house for little money and with the vote, felt emancipated.
The other reason was electricity. Cut crystal was a maintenance nightmare and had to be washed in vinegar so it would sparkle under gas and candle light. Electric lighting could do more than sparkle, it could point out the flaws too.
Times called for a change. The high Victorian pendulum has swung to the extreme, 56 pieces of flatware for one place setting, to a streamlined, cleaner aesthetic. Light and bright was in demand and throw in the newly discovered, non-yellowing, titanium white wall paint, the pendulum did a complete 180 in the other direction. Cut crystal just couldn't cut it anymore.

Anthurium plant
which is different from
Hibiscus, the state flower of Hawaii
Passion Flower grows in a vine and the flowers symbolize the Passion of Jesus Christ. It is the most beautiful plant. I've had the same one for quite a few years. In Spring I take it outdoors and plant it on a sunny trellis. Within a couple months it blooms prolifically. Then in about October I cut it back to about a foot and dig it up and put it in a sunny basement window.

Very fun shopping trip today. I think the thrifts have gotten pricier like everything else! I stopped in at a Savers store, I'm not sure if you have that thrift chain in the Midwest, but I couldn't believe the prices! I sure enjoy hitching a ride with you both on your treasure hunt!

Hi Peggy and Norm. Thanks for another fun walkthrough. A couple of days ago I was at my favorite thrift store and found a cute little Irish couple for St. Patrick's decor. I'm pretty sure they are Homco or Lefton only $3.50.They are so cute. The tablecloth you got is so pretty ❤❤ Take care
