To be fair, I’m pretty sure that Wendigos aren’t the only creatures that crave human flesh

It'd be interesting to get a video about how the wendigo came to be depicted in the media as having antlers. From what I've heard, that was never part of their description in the original Indigenous legends, which made them sound more like big, freaky grey guys (who I think turn bigger every time they eat a person in proportion to the person they ate, so they would always be just as hungry as before).

Fun fact: where I live cannibalism is legal. Just the murder part isn’t. So if you find someone dead, you can legally eat them
It’s highly frowned upon tho

There is one slight error, that being the image is technically not a Wendigo the deer headed creature is a separate and similarly named Wechuge. Actual Wendigos look more like super tall thin humanoids.

I figured I'd mention since its a common mistake lol. But both are incredibly similar even down to both being cannibalistic monsters!

Edit: Oh just realized this was posted 2 years ago, so like oof- regardless hope ya see this!

Yup wendigo Is one of my favorite monsters it's actually technically a number the a number 1 along with the skinwalker . I can't really decide which ones Should be number one so I just put them both that number 1.

Wendigo psychosis happened among indigenous people during times of starvation. A starving person might begin killing family to eat. This was seen as a possession by the cannibal spirit.

Fun fact it depends on which story you are listening to for each area of north America

I believe some people theorized that the myth started as a fable to try and stress the importance of stocking up for winter so you don't become so hungry during the months when no food can be gathered that your freinds and family start looking like food.

But I mean is it still cannibalism though since they are transformed into another creature, and are eating human flesh

Where do you learn all of this at? Im interested in folklore etc. and I don’t really know where to begin

A craving doesn't mean a person will act on it though. Think about how many people want to do all sorts of things they never actually do. There are plenty of outlets available... They could write fiction about it, draw pictures, etc... There's also something called an Ouroboros Steak, where you send in your DNA and they lab grow some of your own muscle tissue to send back to you.

Wendigos are one of my favorites. When I was younger I had a character who could turn into one but currently rewriting it to where she slowly turns into one. I tried doing research on them but Google isn't really reliable at times. Is there anything you recommend? Sites or books?

I love how in guild wars 2 they used wendigo as an idea for mob called boneskinner. Looks awesome and it's lore is that it is what happens to people living there going crazy and possesed by corrupted wolverine spirit that succumb to canibalistic ideas.

My friend said she thought wendigos were small, crazy goblins. I sent this video to her and she said she drop her phone watching this

My grandparents told me the wendigo was in the deep woods and why you don't return if you venture too deep. I've been in the deep woods and heard things and felt things that were terrifying. I now tell my kids not to enter the woods bc the wendigo will lure you in and you'll never return 🤷
