I decided to start from scratch with my strobist (Off camera flash) lighting kit. The gear that I’ve had has lasted me 4-5 years so I thought it was time for an upgrade.

In this video I walkthrough exactly what I got and how much it cost (including eBay listings) to show you how affordable and effective it is. If you watch my content you may even want to grab a couple of these bits and pieces to follow along with some of the videos.

That lightstand looks so good and durable. I'm in China but never seen it or heard about it. Thank you. Waiting to see the setup and real life use

Excellent rundown, Mr Pants. I just might have to justify getting one of these. Only concern though is that it might topple in the wind & I don't usually have an assistant...

Gday, how are you finding the Selens boom arm stand? Still holding up? Was thinking of getting one if you still rate them.

How is the stand holding up after 8 months of use in the field? Can you still recommend it?

I think all my studio equipment is Chinese, but I don’t use a studio as much as you and when I do it tends to be fine art product. I forgot who makes my boom stand but allegedly it takes 10kg, you won’t catch me putting that much on it as a boom but I would as a straight stand. I also use Yongnuo speedlights with the yn685 and yn622 triggers on my old ones and pure manual and then I fire them all with the yn622tx. My grip tends to be Phot-R and I have a couple of Phot-R boom arms I use on the heavy weight stands but I never put more than about 3kg on them as they are not all one unit. Unless you are charging high end prices then I think Chinese kit is more than ok and it’s a lot more reliable than it’s given credit for, I know my monos are much more consistent in colour than a friends Alien Bees. I see you’ve had your kit 12 months now, hope they’ve proved reliable.
