Amazing kit. I own this config., play very little jazz..mostly Top 40/rock/country and have never had more compliments from sound guys, guitar & bass players, singers, dudes just at the club hanging out. I've owned the Yamaha Maple Custom, Pearl Masters, etc and honestly this IS the sound that's in my head. Love it.

never underestimate one's ability to properly tune a drum. Ya did it right here!! Great tone!

I put some coated Ambassadors on mine and they sound great! Would love a Gretsch USA, but man, these Catalina's sound amazing for a fraction of the price.

I’ve just taken delivery. Quality is amazing. Finish is stunning in Bronze Sparkle.

Why pay big money, when these good sounding drums, which are easy to carry around, are so much less expensive.

Just got these for Christmas as a second kit that affords more portability than my main kit. But I see trouble on the horizon as these have already supplanted by larger 6-piece Mapex Armory kit as the kit I am most likely to get behind first. Still need to swap out the snare head and do some tuning on it, but the toms and bass are AMAZINGLY rich and punchy once tuned...even with stock heads. Super happy with this kit

how are you tuning the toms in these? specifically the top head in relation to the bottom head pitch wise

Good to see Mike play....finish is really nice on these. They sound good. Hope I hook up with a set. I have Catalina Ash kit and really dig them....took some tuning patience...but dialed in.

My kit is a "New Round Badge" Catalina Club Jazz kit from before 2016 and I can't see anything different from you describe. What exactly did change, other than a different selection of shell coatings and wraps?

I picked up a kit recently. It has been a difficult journey trying to figure out what they are exactly. I have narrowed it down somewhat. It is the same finish as this kit shown, it is most likely a Taiwan made Catalina kit. The seller told me it was 20 years old. It has a square badge, and the floor tom is mounted to my (very heavy duty) cymbal stand. I wish I could verify that it is maple pr birch, but I’m thinking its maple. Anyway, I just put Remo coated ambassadors on it, and it sounds terrific. I am trying to find when Gretsch started using the silver coating on the inside, as this kit does not. There is so much misinformation and a lack of qualified information about these drums. Any input is welcome!

Good drummers make these good drums sound great.
Bad drummers make expensive kits, even DW, sound very ordinary.

I once had a Rogers kit, first kit passed around the family since late 70s, early 80s, i have no idea what that thing was made of...Grey interior. Floor tom had to be a 15, and all the heads seem different than any modern sizes.

Does it have thin shells like the classic kits? Most modern kits sound different because they have more plies and are heavier in general. Most jazz players want that classic sound.BTW, most drummers obsess about the drumsound forgetting that real old jazz kits had real animal skins on that give that sound today's heads can't replicate.

What is the shell difference from these and the first line of these with the center lugs and the 16”-18” kick kit? I used to have one of those and loved it but were those 45 degree edges or 30 as well?

Is it good to play other genres like rock or pop or gospel?

What about quality of the heads they come with. ?

is this a 2016 model? i called up the distributor DW and they said they don't carry this finish anymore and that in fact this is more like a 2014 model

I love gretsch. But Lord have mercy. They need a color face lift. I'm mean come on. Dw has 500 colors stains wraps sparkles. Gretsch has nothing. What 10 7 6 not many ootions. Everytime I see a Catalina Maple kit. You got two or three of the same old same old. Beautiful drums ok. But it's getting boring. Gretsch has got a fantastic drumset. And yes they got some cool stains and wraps. But not really that many. I think they would sell a ton more drums if they caught everyone by surprise and came out with some new wraps. Stains. Custom drums sets. Why not? Look at Dw. Man it's like a big candy store of color. They have so many beautiful color's wraps stains and collector colors. That's why drum work shop sells so many kits. And they sell them for more. That's one thing I love about gretsch. They sure are a quality and very affordable drum kit.

So, what kind of cymbal stand mount can you put in that Tom Tom holder?
