What You'll Learn:
Global Shutter Mechanics: Understand how global shutters capture entire scenes simultaneously, eliminating motion distortion - perfect for high-speed or scientific imagery.
Rolling Shutter Explained: Learn how rolling shutters expose different parts of the frame sequentially, their common use in consumer devices, and the unique effects they create.
Practical Comparisons: See real-life examples showing the effects of each shutter type on image quality, especially in fast-moving scenarios.
Advantages of Each: Whether it's the distortion-free capture of global shutters or the higher resolution and sensitivity of rolling shutters, find out which is best for your needs.

Whether you're a budding photographer, a film enthusiast, or a tech geek, this video will enhance your understanding of camera technology and help you make better choices for your photography and videography projects.

In a hurry to finish the video before our editors goes away on a long Diwali Holidays, I seem to have made some fundamental (gross) mistakes in this video. I would like to correct it here:

1. Contrary to what I mentioned in the video, the Global Shutter doesn't read-out 50 times in a second during a 1/50 shutter speed! It will depend on the Frame Rate not Shutter Speed.

2. Apologies for not specifying that this is best suited for Filmmaking! 🙈

3. Also please note that by saying 'Line by Line' what I meant was that the Rolling Shutter will expose the Sensor gradually in portions. Please do not interpret it literally. Thank you.

Sir I wanted to understand how this global shutter work, means in technology terms....
Wht was so difficult that it took so many years to make it ?

brother pls answer my last question that if rolling shutter speed is 20ms and shutter speed is 1/16sec(62ms) so brother frame has information bw 0 to 20ms brother am I right ?

Super helpful information! I’m excited about the possibilities.
What kind of shutters have been used in really high speed cameras that scientists use if this is the first global shutter?

A camera with a stacked sensor for faster readout can drastically reduce rolling shutter..and stacked sensor has other advantages also...buy camera with a stacked sensor are few and costly high end..a nikon z6iii jas a partial stacked sensor where as nikon z9 and z8 have stacked sensor the new canon r5ii has a stacked bsi sensor where as the canon R5 did not have it.... 😊

Can jello effect occur in electronic shutter cameras as well?
Also,
Isn't global shutter the same way how sensors work in smartphones? Why is it so legendary in digital cameras then?

We are just helping the camera companies to increase there business. By blindly following the advance technology. Rather it's important to explain the photographers what is must particularly for there type of work. And what is necessary to capture the best in the particular conditions. And to calculate what is the best equipment for there particular work. Coz no one is working in same type of clients and conditions. So why we are suggesting the photography community to follow every advance technology for each kind of work.

dear radha, der radha,
1. I do not think it was sony that started the mirrorless revolution.
they might have introduced the the first mirrorless full frame.
but revolution? NO!
you remember the olympus micro 4/3 camera you sent to me in 2010?
or did you forget that?
that was the real mirrorless revolution!

2. when you are using a 1/50 shutter speed, the shutter does not move all the way across the frame gate in 1/50 of second.
what happens is, every single pixel in the sensor is exposed to the light for 1/50 of a second.

3. I guess when you were using the term "rolling shutter" you actually meant focal plane shutter.

4. The most important benefit from a global shutter is lack of shutter shock or vibration.
