I joined at 6'0 and 255lbs. I ate no starch while in basic, because I knew that the pasta, the rice, the bread, the French toast, was really just for the guys that needed energy. But I brought that with me, so I gave my portions away to the skinny guys that didn't have any extra fuel to use. I lost 55lbs in those 10 weeks.

They should be put in basic, but can never leave until they get the right weight. By the time they are done they will become an expert and a professional in everything even more than everyone else.

My brother is in Basic and he gets a phone call every fucking weekend and is enjoying his time, it isnt hard mentally, or physically. Its soft, not challenging and a fucking joke. The Marine Corps is the only branch that still has a "Boot Camp" and is actually challenging. Even then that is I read a scripted message to my family at MCRD San Diego when I got there and talked to them 13 weeks later at family day the Drill Instructors yelled, screamed, and berated us for the next 13 weeks non stop it was savage and awesome.

Its kinda funny watching the army react to a delayed entry program the air force has had for several years now. When going the air force you won't be let in until you meet standards. In 2020 I was 165 lb and 5'8 but around six months before that I was sitting at 220lb. I was put in the air force delayed entry program to learn air force culture and lose weight. After I made weight they shipped me out to meps no problem. If the army wants to teach motivated people army culture and force them to lose weight I say more power to them.
