The Night Sky September 2024

Welcome to The Night Sky series, a curated list of Deep Sky Objects, planets and notable events that are happening in the Northern Hemisphere night sky this month.

This list is broken down by various popular focal lengths complete with equivalent sensor sizes. No matter your gear, I guarantee you'll find something suitable to photo!

These are all based against a full frame Canon 5D mk3 camera when it comes to the equivalent sizings.

Planets are judged whether they rise above 20 degrees altitude for long enough to be worthwhile, this ensures they get out of the most mucky part of the atmosphere for better seeing conditions.

I’ve missed these so much. Especially now Alyn Wallace is no longer with us. I used to look forward to his every month. There was only you and him that did these sort of vids, so I’m glad you’re back on the scene filling the void of what’s in the night sky. Keep it up mate 🌌

I love these videos and I can see there is a lot of work that goes into making them. I always pull up stellarium and follow along to see what it will look like with my setup. Thanks for this!

Thanks for the info - the moon in partial eclipse would probably be a good photography target for me.

Many thanks for another Night Sky guide! Now the nights are drawing in once again, and yeah it’s really whet my appetite for Astrophotography once more. I never really used to bother during the summer months where nights are shortest, fitting it all in around work and many, many repeated nights of lack of clear skies! But this summer I have delved into imagining around Cygnus- a target I know well, but never really imaged in any detail yet. Keep up the good work- looking forwards to the next video!

Nice to see another video from you! Good stuff and thank you for another great curated list of objects. Just a heads-up, you've got "August" in the thumbnail instead of "September" 👍🏼

I like the ‘not to scale (that would be terrifying)’ 😂

Hope you have time to do some new Affinity Photos 2 videos. Maybe incorporate James Ritson's macros.
